I disappeared from YouTube and stopped writing newsletters for months.
My personal brand was growing, my systems were in place, but everything suddenly fell apart.
The culprit? AI-induced burnout and a painful lesson about content creation, I had to learn the hard way.
The Day I Realized AI Was Destroying My Creativity
I remember the moment clearly.
Sitting at my desk, staring at an AI-generated draft of what should have been my newsletter. The words were there, but my voice wasn't.
My fingers hovered over the keyboard, paralyzed. I couldn't bring myself to hit publish.
That's when it hit me: I had fallen into the AI trap.
Like many creators, I thought AI would be my savior. A magic tool that would multiply my output while I focused on "more important things."
What a mistake that was.
The Uncomfortable Truth About Using AI for Content Creation
Here's what nobody tells you about using AI to create content:
It slowly erases your creative identity.
When I started building my personal brand, I used AI sparingly—just for brainstorming ideas.
My content wasn't perfect, but it was authentic. It resonated with people because it came from me.
Then I got busy with personal commitments. My systems started falling apart. I thought, "Everyone's using AI to write. Why not me?"
So I began feeding generic prompts to AI tools, expecting them to produce content that would help me "go viral overnight."
Spoiler alert: they didn't.
Why AI Can't Replace Your Voice
Using AI for content creation is like falling in love.
At first, everything seems amazing. You're blown away by what it can do. Even its most basic outputs seem magical.
But as the honeymoon phase ends, you realize how generic everything sounds.
The relationship turns toxic. You become dependent on something that's slowly making you question your own value.
This dependence led to the worst burnout of my career. I couldn't upload a single YouTube video. I couldn't write a single piece of long-form content.
Everything felt wrong because nothing felt like me anymore.
The System That Saved My Content Career
After months of frustration, I discovered three principles that helped me break free from AI burnout:
1. Build systems that serve YOUR life, not someone else's
You can steal systems from all the OG gurus, but if their life doesn't align with yours, everything will eventually crash down.
I was trying to follow content schedules designed for people with completely different lives from mine.
Now I understand my personal commitments first, then build systems around them, not the other way around.
2. Make AI your best friend, not your god
Just like your best friend's advice, not everything from AI will work for you.
AI should enhance your ideas, not replace them.
If you want something meaningful from AI, you need to know how to prompt it uniquely and provide complete context. The garbage-in, garbage-out principle applies doubly with AI.
But remember: the final edit always needs your human touch.
3. Create a content waterfall with three content "rocks"
I now focus on just three long-form pieces each week on topics I'm genuinely interested in: relationships, professionalism, and reading/writing.
These become my content "rocks" that create a waterfall effect, flowing down into smaller pieces for different platforms.
This focused approach prevents burnout while maintaining a consistent presence.
Remember This
AI is a tool, not a replacement for your unique voice.
• Systems only work when they're built around your actual life.
• Overcomplicating content creation leads to inevitable burnout.
• The best content still comes from human experience, not algorithms.
Working and living have to go hand in hand. There will be days when one will overpower the other, but that doesn't mean there's a right or wrong approach.
The only approach that matters is the one that works for you. The sooner you understand this, the better it is for your creativity—and your sanity.
